PIC & 75MHz Bundles - Discontinued

Hello Everyone,
We are discontinuing a few items from the VEX Robotics product line.
In particular, we are eliminating all the kits VEX Robotics sells directly which utilize the PIC, including the following:
276-2220
275-1268
276-2310
276-2321
276-2331

Classroom Lab Kit with PIC - http://www.vexrobotics.com/vex-classroom-lab-kits.html
All Starter Bundles included on this page - http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/vex-robot-starter-bundles/pic

We are NOT discontinuing the PIC Microcontroller itself, or the 75MHz products – we are simply eliminating VEX’s bundles which use these products.

In addition, we are discontinuing the 9.6V Transmitter Battery (276-2220 - [http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/accessories/power/276-2220.html) which is used to power the VEX 75MHz transmitter. Our suppliers will no longer provide this item, which utilizes NiCd cells. 75MHz transmitter users should use AA batteries with the provided battery tray.

ALL of these products will be available for a limited time. We intend to stop building sometime at the end of February, and then sell out from there. Anyone who wishes to get in “one last buy” should place their order before March 1st to ensure delivery – beyond that I cannot guarantee we will have stock.

Let me know if you have any questions on this change.

I guess it is time to Move On… The only thing that stays Constant, is Change…

Ni-MH AA Cells are available on the Internet, but could you verify if these Battery Packs would be compatible with the Current Vex Battery Chargers, and IF they would be Competition Legal??

I guess I need to “spend money” at the Vex Store…

Hi Mark,
We cannot comment on the compatibility of items outside the VEX product line. I can’t say for sure if those other battery packs will work. It seems like they probably will.

VRC rules do not regulate the batteries used with the 75MHz transmitter, so yes – they are competition legal.

Can you provide the Charging Specifications of the Discontinued Batteries and the Charging Parameters of the Chargers for the Discontinued Batteries??

I would think that would be enough information to find a possible replacement for the 9.6VDC Pack.

IIRC, the AA Holder won’t fit inside the original PIC Controller if someone has VexNET installed. That would leave you, kind of “stuck”…

Radio-Shack still sells 7.2VDC and 9.6VDC Ni-MH batteries for RC Cars. They currently are selling kits, with One Battery with a Wall Charger…

The Kit for the 9.6VDC is 230-1171, and appears to be the same size as the Vex 75Mhz Transmitter Batteries… I would take along a Vex 9.6VDC battery for comparison…

I have purchased from Radio-Shack in the past, just the Ni-MH 9,6VDC batteries, without the Charger, and used them in my Vex 75Mhz Transmitter, so I would expect that the current ones for sale are the same size…

For 7.2VDC power Radio-Shack has Kit 230-1272, with a 2800MAh battery with a Wall Charger.

For Batteries Only, you would have to order from the Radio-Shack web site…
