plastic tubing legal ?

Hey! I was thinking of buying some non-vex plastic cable tubing to hide the cables inside so they would be organized and it would look “professional”, but I’m not sure if it’s legal. I mean it doesn’t help the robot in any function, but just to be sure. Help?

I doubt this would be legal, because someone could argue that the tubing is helping to hold the connections together, therefore having a purpose, which is illegal.

From a good understanding of the rules I would say this is definitely illegal.

Your intention is good but there would be problems for the inspectors. They would not be able to state that it doesn’t give you an advantage somehow without a lot of work which they don’t have time for.

But if you are really concerned ask it in the official Q@A section.

There is always cable ties. Also if you put wires down a tube then have to replace a damaged wire it might cause more trouble then it saves.

It will be interesting to see what others think.

It looks illegal b/c its not really a non-functional decoration (i.e. it has a function holding the wires nice and tight etc). Maybe consider buying a bunch of different sized extension cables as well as a ton of zip-ties so you can make it neat on the metal, thats what we usu do.
