Plus drive viability?

We built a prototype of what we’re calling Jesus drive. It’s literally just X drive but like tank drive too. Idk. My team leader said that this is just X drive if you orient it differently, but I disagree. Why has no one thought of this before, as far as I can read on the forums?

that is literally just a bad x drive

I made this for testing before I had gussets. I would recommend you don’t connect all four ends of the square, because making the chassis so rigid doesn’t allow wheels to contact the floor properly. Some flex in the chassis is good to make sure all wheels touch.

Once I had 3D printer time I just printed gussets (until vex ships real ones) and made a regular X-Drive.

Or a bad H drive depending on how you look at it.

I’m also curious, what is the reason behind the name of this drive?

It is not viable also if you look at some of Kepler electronics ideas his ones from ITZ he had a robot that used that drive. He called it a " crappy holonomic drive" its just not good.

Because my friend said it looked like a cross.

because it makes you go “Jesus Christ, what is that thing”

I agree with your team leader, and I’m curious why you disagree. You have four wheels separately powered by four motors all a right angles to each other in the shape of a square. Definition of X-drive.

In order to benefit from all 4 motors when driving in any direction other than diagonally, your robot would have to be built such that the corner of your chassis is the front of the robot, and that’s just making the job harder for no reason. Otherwise, forward/backward driving as well as any strafing only uses two motors at a time, so that’s not a viable option either.

well, I’d say 45 degree angle wheels in corners would be a better representation, because that’s what we actually want to build. I was saying “why make a completely different thing when you could just make the real one”

Congregation you may start with the recital

  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
“I am just a sinner that builds robots from random parts.”
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
“Every year ask my roboteers to use the engineering words”
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
“Every year they come up with vexatious words perverting the Lords work”
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
“Please guide me Lord in helping them on the path of righteousness”
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
"And help them from straying from blasphemy and calling drive bases names that they just made up
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
And please Lord, help me through this time of need where middle school roboteers and new High School Roboteers enter into the forum
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
help me endure their questions that can be resolved using search.
  • “O Lord hear my … Wait, you want us to stop calling it Jesus drive?”
Wait, what? You too? For Foster’s sake, they have a real name …
  • “O Lord hear my prayer.”
Wooh, close. In the name of the RECF, the VEX, the GDC and all the Event Partners, please hear my prayer.
  • "Is this a good time to talk about bearing blocks, cause I’m hearing that screws are much better supports for gear rotation?

It’s actually called a plus drive:

(Taken from 2915A’s World Championship Excellence Award winning engineering notebook).

Please don’t use this drivetrain. If you want the ability to strafe, just use a mecanum or x-drive. And please, for the live of god, stop making up new names for things, before @meng comes and smites you.

Can… we not call it this? Not only is it not it’s real name, it can be easily seen as offensive to many people. Please edit the title and the post.

ah yes, the four thirds kiwi drive

I don’t know how it could possibly offend a Christian, at least personally it’s just a joke to me. But alright, Plus drive it is

Yeah, I didn’t actually want to make it. I wanted to do normal x drive. Alas, the team leader is the leader. also I looked and I didn’t see any drive trains like it so I just named it something. But if it’s called plus drive, it is plus drive

Please have a bit more consideration in naming things or anything in general. In my opinion, it not offending you and you treating it as a joke doesn’t always translate to everyone else thinking it’s the same. This whole thread is a mess of not assessing the build’s pros and cons of the prototype as a team and just posting to the forum for everyone to think of the issues of the drive instead.

I’m a Christian, didnt even realize that it was a possibility of being offensive. The only thing offensive is the drive itself, not the name.
