Pneumatic tubing

Hello again,

I’m assembling the pneumatics parts that came with the single-acting pneumatics kit, and I was wondering: how does one secure the black pneumatic tubing so that it doesn’t fall off the air holes on the cylinders and various other parts?

Thanks,
brep

Push it (10 char)

“Push it” is right. But, for more specifics:

Push down on the spring-y part of the connecting piece on the piston. Push in the black pneumatic tubing as far as it goes. Then, release the springy part on the connecting piece. It should latch into place and withstand a fair amount of tugging.

I tried “pushing it” before, but I never tried pushing down on the springy portion at the same time. Thanks for the tip! It worked.

Also, what would the best place to buy a pneumatics pump be?

I bought mine from “sports chalet” but you can really buy it from any sports store or bike shop.

Get a true bike pump, not a foot pump. I personally have gone through 3 foot pumps in the past year.

So a bike pump would work… I have a bike pump, but for some strange reason it failed to fit in the cylinder’s pump tube thing (forget what it’s called), which was completely unexpected.

I still don’t understand why everyone uses manual air pumps. You can just get a simple small electric pump/compressor for around $40 that works fine for pumping up the pneumatics. It’s the type that you use for pumping up car tires, and usually plugs into a car plug, but can be easily modified to use a battery.

Where would we get our exercise or show off our squats to all 5 of the females at worlds?

In all honesty my HS team had one of these and it was the most amazing purchase ever.

i personally recommend these pumps, definitely worth the extra dollars since they last quite a long time. also saves you from the potential embarrassment of your biceps wimping out in front of all those 5 females :stuck_out_tongue:

I have seen these used at Worlds.

I was wondering how well the batteries last? How long do they run for and do they wear out quickly?

I have used a handheld compressor and a bike pump. In my opinion it’s not that bad pumping up your robot, especially this year because of 2 tanks. Its just a hassle to deal with batteries and such, carrying around a bike pump is just easier IMO.

on a full charge, it could easily last one or two bots a full day of competition depending on how many tanks each has. im not sure of specifics beyond that

I do hope to eventually get a pump like you guys are talking about, and in fact we used one last year. They lasted for a long time on a Seaperch battery (Seaperch is another robotics club at my school), but it did eventually die out at one point. It lasted probably… hmmm… about 100-150 refills. Maybe even more.

We have the same thing the first time we brought it to a comp. everyone wanted to know what it was, then at state there were about three other teams with one

We too had this pump and it works amazing, We charged it every night at worlds and had no problems with it lasting all day

We have the sears ones too, they last forever on a charge!

We use an FRC compressor and battery because it was what we had, waay better than manual. It is a bit of weight to carry around though, should look into getting the sears pump.

I finally got my team one of those, and I must say it is amazing!!! I finally have a working pump. Thanks for suggesting it.
