Hi all,
Can anyone help me with coding my pneumatic wings? We’re new to vex and using block coding. No idea where to start!!
Hi all,
Can anyone help me with coding my pneumatic wings? We’re new to vex and using block coding. No idea where to start!!
Start with the vex knowledge base: https://kb.vex.com/hc/en-us/sections/4404197392404-Pneumatics
This article should tell you everything you need to know: https://kb.vex.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404204989076-Controlling-Pneumatics-Using-Buttons-on-Your-Controller.
Its still not working!!
We have the old pneumatics kit, double acting cylinder. Does this make a difference for coding??
When i try to pump air into it, it doesnt allow me. Does this mean it’s already full?
What exactly isn’t working? Could you share a picture of the pneumatic setup and a copy of the code, please?
I don’t have it with me at the moment. I can share a picture tomorrow. Thanks so much for your help
It should not, as I used the same code for both
Tomorrow when you can I would like to see your setup. If you screw on the pump right it should press down on the pin in the middle and fill up.
Here is a simple example of the code.
Why don’t you just use two t-connectors instead? I’ll send a picture of how we have ours set up if that helps?
The basic plumbing looks ok. Be sure to open the exhaust flow control valves on your air cylinders all the way. The wont affect the extension of your air cylinders, but could keep your air cylinders from retracting if they’re closed all the way.
Once your air cylinders are extending and retracting, you can experiment with slowing down the retracting of your air cylinders.
Ok thanks. Ill try this. When i tried, they wouldnt move at all but am working on getting support from a team in our neighbouring school. Thank you so so much for your help guys, literally a godsend!
Yes please that would be very helpful. Issue is, this is all we have (salvaged it from other team’s abandoned box!)
It is basically as i have founded.
Also for this, push the air pump all the way into the schrader valve, and that will release all of the air. Try filling it up with air then. If the air doesn’t release, or you still can’t fill it up with air, it might be an issue with the schrader valve.
Happy to say pneumatics now working! Only problem was that the pump was not effectively working.
Does anyone know roughly how many times i would be able to open/close wings during a match before air runs out?
This generally depends on the length of your tubing and how your wings are designed, i.e. if your wings take a lot of force to activate, you will get less overall activations, whereas if they move very freely you’ll get more actuations our of them.
This is a good chance to document something in your engineering notebook by testing how many activations you get on a full tank, then deciding if its enough and possible improvements you can make.
