Pneumatics

We are thinking about getting pneumatics and we were wondering, is there a way to make their action slower? or are they always instantaneous? We would like to be able to let air in and out of them slowly, so there isn’t so much jerking.

As Murdomeek would say:

nope

There is a method of restricting the airflow to make the pistons go slower.
It’s a little different for us, because we have older versions of the kits. But there are 2 different types of adjustable connectors. One that attaches directly to the cylinder on a right angle, and thumbscrew valve that goes between the solenoid and the tank. I’m not sure if all the current kits use them, though.

It is called a Flow meter http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/accessories/motion/275-0277.html
They regulate the flow of the air so that it reacts slower.

O.o I had no idea that existed. Is it the white “L” shaped thing thats attaches to one of the entry/exit points for the air into the cylinder?

Yes
They only come with double acting cylinders not single acting though.

thanks that is exactly what i needed!!

I don’t think it’s a typo…
A cylinder = piston.
This kit has everything you need for a single double-acting piston. This means that it can be powered both directions.
To use the piston, you need other parts that are in both Kit 1 and/or Kit 2.

Therefore, to use this Kit, you need either Kit 1 or Kit 2.

oops i read it wrong!! cannot be used WITHOUT… my bad
