Hello,
I was wondering if anybody knew where i can get my teams more pnumatics, for example:
Does anyone know where they sell the air tank that is used in the pnumatics kits?
Is anyone selling their own pneumatics?
Where can we get peumatics other than vex website?

they have to be exactaly the same to compition standards but good luck!
They just need to be identical to VEX legal parts in all ways except color.

Did you get all of your pneumatic stuff from this web site?
We haven’t ordered from them, no. We were going to but their lead time was several weeks and it was only two weeks until Worlds.
The part numbers are the same, which is what the inspectors are looking for. I got those links from Ryantech from team 1900, so maybe his team has ordered from them.
PLCCenter stocks many of the parts, but so far I have been able to find all of the parts directly from SMC except for the reservoir. The parts have identical model numbers and specs to the vex parts, so they should be the same. However, I have only priced it out - not purchased, so I cannot be 100% certain. It is important to note that my team’s next pneumatics purchase (hopefully this fall) will come from SMC.
Vex solenoid drivers must be purchased from VEX, as they are not made by SMC
Below are the part numbers from SMC. The pictures shown on the SMC website are general product class pictures and do not represent the actual components. Vex Tubing is 4mm, but occasionally is used with a 5/32" Fittings - the difference in size is so minute that it doesn’t make a difference. These parts are also sometimes cheaper from Amazon than SMC, but the price fluctuates frequently.
Plug: KQ2P-03 [Amazon]
T-Fitting: KQ2T03-00 [Amazon 1] [Amazon 2]
Reservoir Fittings: KQ2H03-34S [Amazon]
Cylinder Fittings: KJS04-M5
Solenoid Fittings: KJS04-M3 [Amazon]
Flow-Control Fitting: AS120F-M5-04T [Amazon]
Single Acting Cylinders: NCJ2D10-200S
Double Acting Cylinders: NCJ2D10-200
To date, I have not been able to find the reservoir on SMC’s website, but I have found it at PLCCenter. You may have some luck procuring it through SMC if you call them.
I don’t think VEX sells the solenoid drivers separately. I only found the solenoid driver cables.
That’s exactly what you need. For reference, they can be found here.
So essentially, we can’t buy our own “pneumatics kits” from PLC Center or SMC because they won’t have the solenoid driver.
You can’t buy the entire kit, but you can buy most of the components. And what you can’t buy (the driver), you can buy individually from VEX ($30 for 2).
Another thing to consider is contacting an SMC sales rep to see what he can do for you, Perhaps sponsor your team(s) with a set at a discounted price.
Thats what my dad does at least he sponsors teams with full sets of pnuematics, and for me anything I really need.
Sometimes these guys love to help in any way they can!

I think that’s just the driver cable, not the driver itself.
You can buy everything except the driver cable from vendors other than VEX. I picked up a couple extra reservoirs, solenoids, cylinders, and fittings from Innovative IDM (http://www.innovativeidm.com). Their prices were decent and the service was very good. I talked with Cyrus Jahani from their inside sales team at 214.256.7616.

May I suggest http://www.coastpneumatics.com/. I’ve made numerous orders from them and have been quite satisfied. Their shipping times are quite reasonable, for most components you can buy them in quantities of one, and there is no minimum order fee.
In fact, Wednesday before the Anaheim WC, I went to their warehouse (was only about 15mins from the Convention Center) to buy some spare pneumatic parts. So for anyone who lives in that area… you’re in luck!
Unless I’m mistaken, the driver is the thing in the middle of the cable that changes the signal from PWM to the 2-pin connector that plugs into the solenoid itself. I don’t think you need anything VEX-specific besides that driver (cable).
Nope, you are right. I’m crazy.
The part I was referring to was this:
http://www.plccenter.com/en-US/Buy/SMC/SY113SMOPM3F
This is the Solenoid On/Off, not the solenoid driver. Silly me.
We can technically buy “full” pneumatics kits with the exception of the cable, which is not a bad deal since it’s only $30 for 2 cables. Thank you for making me re-check my sources. You just made my day.
Thinking of buying some of these, did anyone have any problems during inspections with the parts?
If you’re talking about the pneumatic system in general, it’s completely legal in VEX provided you follow the rules in the manual pertaining to them. Also make sure that any pneumatic system parts you buy from third party sources are identical to the parts that VEX sells.
I’m sorry if my response was unclear, I was exhausted at the time. What I mean is that I plan on purchasing pneumatics from the third party sources listed on this thread, and I was wondering if anyone who had purchased the third party pneumatics ever had any problems during inspections.
