Possible new motor

I showed this to my son and he thought it would make a great replacement for the Vex motor:

This would give a bit more power.

 perfect for response to that recent thread asking for new motors

i don’t think vex needs stronger motors. they just need a more reliable one. we have had to replace 4 393 motors this year due to broken internal gearing or broken motor itself. the 269 motors where atrocious for breaking down when we used them for sack attack and gateway.

My guess is that the motor in the video would handle whatever you throw at it.

They need a motor thats more reliable but they could stand to pack a bit more punch but no not a nitro or gas engines unless vex starts a combat leauge

I like the combat league idea. They will have to change the rules by removing the one that says no intentionally damaging the opponent’s robot.

Combat league interesting

I was mostly joking but …

Vex should make a brushless version of the 393 motors. And let us use lipo batteries! Yeah no, that’s not happening for quite awhile.

I have a theory about this, maybe it makes sense to other people.
Last year, it was confirmed by @JVN (I think) that V5 (The New Cortex) was being developed.
I have a theory in which this new cortex will follow suit of it’s younger brother(The IQ Cortex) in which it would have ‘smarter’ motor ports & sensor ports. With this, I assume new motors would be allowed, be it through the roundup rule (6 old + 4 new), or through a new rule where you can use 10 motors.

I have reason to believe new motors are in the works, due to the supply of 393’s starting to become lower, yes there are a lot of teams, but are there enough to mostly dry out the VEX motor supply?
However, I could be wrong, and it may literally just be a supply chain issue, similarly to metal last year, but I am quite worried that if teams aren’t able to buy their 10 motors, then they won’t be able to compete.

What I’d like to see out of new motors:

  • Integrated encoders built in.
  • More torque/speed.
  • More internal gearsets.
  • Better connection system (Bent pins are the worst)
  • Integrated Speed Controllers.

This is all just speculation, that I assume would be released, or at least announced within the next year or so!

Our team thinks that anti gravity motors would be a great addition. They would have unlimited torque and RPM. An added bonus is that they cant break and they take up no space.

Fg = Gm1m2/r^2, so a gravity motor wouldn’t have unlimited torque and RPM. Torque is directly proportional to force (torque = r x F) Since the force from gravity is dependent on the mass of an object, it would definitely take up a lot of space unless you got your hands on an extremely dense material (e.g. a neutron star).

(yes, it’s a joke.)

Edit: missed the “anti” part of anti gravity motors.

yay that was the point but when ever our team encountered a problem that was always the solution such as fly wheel launchers or lifts.

It would be great if we could just get a motor, then have different gearboxes to attach to them, sort of like the VersaPlanetary gearboxes that VEX makes for FRC. Also it would be nice if we could just have better motors in general. I know this sounds ridiculous but a mini CIM would be awesome albeit way overpowered.

That’s no power source. THIS is a power source.

I don’t think I can fit that in an 18 inch cube.

@Harrison2 I am hopeful that you’re right. We’re due an update to the Cortex and motors. We’ll find out what they unleash for products at Worlds.

I’m resurrecting this to point out that you didn’t get your new “Cortex” or motors. But you did get star drive screws! (that you could already by legally from other suppliers!)

haha

Star drive screws were a close 2nd on everyone’s wishlist… right…

Totally would smell good in a building xD
