Potential V5 Hardware Updates?

That’s why my ideas were small, but a big impact. Nothing that would cause a rush toward a version B. The change from micro USB to USB-c for new production would seem like an easy change (although admittedly I really have no idea).

Vex promised a lot with V5 (including promising V5 itself). They are just getting around to fulfilling a couple of these promises (a good coding platform). New hardware will probably be a long time coming.

For the love of good, can VEX fix the brass fittings on the v5 motors. This is a minor tweak and would save a lot of motors and also complaints sent to them.

I’ve already broken several fittings that make the motors almost unusable because you can’t even fit a screw into the holes properly. I don’t know why they would use such a weak metal for this, and I don’t know why they are so susceptible to damage. You’d expect a motor, a critical function of the robot, to be at least durable enough to withstand simply mounting it onto some c-channel but just a couple of turns of a screw and the fittings tend to break off.

I am kind of upset that this did not get changed from beta, or they should at least have different mounting plates. It would be 4 screws and a different injected molded piece that they could mark up and sell…

On my team its an inside joke that I don’t know how to properly plug in a micro-USB cable. I was so fed up with it by the end of the season I ended up buying a USB to micro-USB adapter and used that for the remainder of the season. We also found a use for all the long-as-heck orange usb cables used for the old Cortex system.

The only other issue my team had was with the Vision Sensor - the programmer developing it was rather disappointed at the resolution being quite poor and unable to track flags from across the field. Seeing that there are still motors that will stop working with just hours of use that’s probably where most of the development effort is going.
also, when is IQ compatibility for it coming?

I can see this being a possibility, but it all has to depend on whether Vex can handle another apocalyptic-level ordering like we had when V5 was first available to order, some teams may choose to just keep the not updated hardware, others may want to order the new and improved versions, and there will always be new teams ordering for the first time.

I had hoped there would be compatibility between the V5 hardware and the VEXIQ hardware.

It would have been nice to be able to pull sensors from V5 over to VEXIQ and sensors and motors back the other way. Love the grunty V5 motors, but having a smaller. lightweight motor (like the VIQ one) would have been nice.

You can already use the Vision Sensor on IQ by programming with Robot Mesh Studio.
