So we are wondering if you preload a ring will it be consider a part of your robot in inspection for size? Because the ring brings us out of compliance if it counts
Welcome to the forum! As preloads are not part of the inspection process, a preloaded ring will not make your robot out of size.
Note: careful how you categorize topics. You categorized this as VIQ, which is a completely different middle school competition than V5RC, which you are speaking about.
Rule G5 states:
Therefore, since the preload is contained in your robot before the match, and that would make your robot out of size, your robot would start the match out of size, violating G5 and is hence illegal.
However, inspection does not check your robot’s size with a preload. But it is still illegal.
I could see a ring holding up an intake and making it too large
I don’t think this is quite what he is asking. I believe the question is if the ring itself is counted into the size of the robot.
And the answer is no. The ring is not part of your robot.
Is the ring the only thing that would be out of size or is the ring causing part of your robot to be out of size? If it is the first then that is legal. If it is the second, that is illegal.
Here is a very very jank example:
This would be legal, as the ring does nothing to the robot to move it out of the size constraints.
This would not be legal, as the ring is holding the arm in a position that is outside the constraints.
Thank you so much this helps a lot
