So, when the new forum started up, I made my profile picture our mascot with dots behind it because it was the only one I had at the moment. I have the original file now, but it won’t let me change it. No matter what mixture of refreshing, Removing Avatar, or saving changes, it always switches back to the old one with dots in the background. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Did you change the file name?
I am having the same issue. File names are definitely different, have tried different files, different file extensions, different sizes.

issue is the previous avatar i uploaded is pretty inappropriate 
atleast i can remove it
I have uploaded a profile image a few times and each time it has disappeared after a day or two.
It took me a few uploads and saves to get mine up. I also noticed every time I changed something in the profile i would have to re upload the picture/avatar (PNG).
A JPEG worked on the first try after trying a PNG a few times.
After removing all styling and disabling custom JS on my browser, as well as exporting a perfectly equal image (200x200 pixels) I could change my image first try However it was all in the name of science and…
Now lets try changing it back 
**UPDATE:**To further update, I had no problems changing it back to an image that is exactly 128x128. So if you are having problems with changing your image, make the amount of horizontal pixels equal to the amount of vertical pixels and try setting it to that. I also removed my old image before setting a new one :D.
I’ve found that mine will actually change several days after I upload a new picture. In the meantime it just keeps the same old one.
Yeah, looks like that is what happened with mine. Odd…
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We have made a fix so that all avatar changes should now be immediately visible. (You may need to refresh your page after saving your changes.)
