Programming Trouble

My group has been trying to program a robot with a system that has one wheel on each side. We have the omni-directional wheels on it. We got the turning to work beautifully, as well as our ring-lifters. However, whatever we do, we cannot get the wheels to go forward and side correctly. We want to have The side wheels go forward and back on channel 1, and the front and back wheels forward and back on channel 2. We have turning on channel 3 and 4 (though we could probably do it without 4), and the ring-lifters on channels 5 and 6. Can someone please tell us how to program this?
