What you are talking about is called CAD (computer aided drafting) software. As a student, you have the ability to get “free” educational licenses for most of the leading industry CAD software packages and really add to your resume…if you’re willing to take the time to learn to use it. (If you’re not willing to invest some time, I’d recommend taking pictures). Here’s a document with information about most of the industrial CAD software available to students: CAD for VEX Robotics.pdf - Google Drive
Here’s a link to a series of youtube videos that I used to train myself in onshape: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rkEL2l4pvM&list=PL58YBuL9CL7KdaFquOuCasoTzGwnjHFUN, though this only teaches what you need for Vex (not the part studio, that area is for custom parts)
However, I would recommend trying to do pictures when you could, as taking a picture takes a lot less time than cading your robot
However, I would also recommend using CAD to plan out robots before you build them, because trust me, many time-consuming mistakes can be solved in Cad (like having the entire left side of your drivetrain one hole off…)
Thank you. I thought about making sketches on a computer or in real life to recreate the robot. I can do onshape if I can get the feel for it. I have Vex IQ CAD files from Vex Robotics; it’s just the program itself that I’m primarily struggling with.
