Mecanum:
Pros: Manueverability I guess, but X-drive is better
Cons: literally everything else, they kind of suck.
two-motor:
Pros: Light on motor usage
Cons: Typically not enough torque to run a robot at a reasonable speed
Four Motor:
Pros: Allows for some well-torqued drivetrain gearings, while still using less motors than a 6m drivetrain
Cons: less torque than a 6m drivetrain, and a bit more liely to have motors over heat depending on the cartridge in the motor and gear ratio.

You’re best off doing your own work based on your own opinions and experiences

I don’t have my own opinions on most of this as I’ve only done a two-motor standard drive train and a four-motor standard drive train
No better time than the present to put in the work, gain the experience, and form opinions informed by that experience.

Not trying to be harsh but, that’s no excuse, there are many resources for you use such as Sigbots Wiki and other forum posts.

This would make a perfect notebook entry. Get together with you team and make a bunch of Pro/Con lists or a decision matrix and have every team member fill one out. Compare you ideas and decide on the best scoring ones.
If you need inspiration, YouTube is your friend. You can look up videos of past robot or tutorials on how to build different mechanisms. @DreadNauts mentions the sigbots wiki which is another great place to learn.
If you still don’t know where to go, build some prototypes. Give yourself a set amount of time (ex an hour or two) and build the best mechanism you can. Complete this for each possible mechanism and see which one works the best.

How is x drive better if it only has two motors in one direction and mecanum if done well can have 6 motors in one direction
Mecanum
Takes least space for holonic motion in a way?
Like everything. horrible acceleration size and consistency at the top
2 motor tank I assume
ridiculous amount of motors for everything else
no speed or torque
4 motor
have a large portion for other parts and better than 2
still beat by 6 motor that is common
top down assuming like over under meta.
takes least motors and very quick, best way to feed quick
only one side grip
side side
has better grip
linear puncher
needs more motors and typically slower and bulkier
can go further and typically only needs 1 red motor
fly wheel
if fed by robot it is more consistent. and doesn’t wind up
more motors typically
because of the wheels. mechanum wheels just stink frankly
