My puncher is not shooting very far. I use a lot of latex, 2 high torque motors, and a 36 tooth gear with 6-teeth shaved off. Is it because its not being pulled back far enough?
Hmmm. Maybe try to use more latex, shave off around 10 teeth and gear the pull, back system for faster speed and pull back more. Mostly everything I can think of
That sounds like more than enough pullback, but that depends mostly on your elastics. You might try changing where the elastics are mounted.
Besides that, there are a lot of other ways to change the shot i.e. playing with the angle, changing the way the ball contacts the launcher, using a different motor setup.
Two torque motors are produce about the same force as 3 high speed motors that 2R is using quite well .
There are several things you may want to look at. First of all make sure there is no extra friction in the gearbox and piston sliders are well aligned and easily slide. You may want to put a little bit of white grease on the sliders as well.
Then you need to make sure that rubber bands stretch parallel to the piston motion. If they don’t - you will get twisting torque that will increase friction at the sliders.
Then you need to experiment with the placement of the ball. There is an optimal point - too close to the piston or too far will give you less range.
Also do experiment with where bands attach to the base - there is an optimal point as well.
36/6 slipgear should work fine - it works for us. If none of the above helps try to reduce mass of the piston. Lighter piston will accelerate to higher velocity with the same amount of elastics.
Friction is definitely not a problem because we used white lithium grease and its really smooth. I think it is pull back because it gets pulled back like two and half inches. yes the rubber bands are parallel.
I am having the same problem although i think it is due to how i am hittinf the ball. Have you tried using a c channel to hit the ball on the end?
I use a thin long c-channel. I increased the pull-back distance and it’s shooting two balls per second and it works like a charm.
