Question on VEXcode IQ Chrome App vs VEXcode IQ Windows app: discontinued?

I am a new VEX IQ mentor help person so I am not 100% sure on this.

The page
VEXcode Install IQ - VEX Robotics has download links for the Download VEXcode IQ (Blocks and Text) - v4.0.7

Then right below it there is a notice that says “Google has decided to discontinue all Chrome Apps effective January 2025.”

Is the software for Windows (“VEXcode IQ v4.0.7”) considered part of the Chrome App discontinue message?

I ask only because the Vex page https://kb.vex.com/hc/en-us/articles/29233093694740-Transitioning-from-App-Based-VEXcode-IQ-to-Web-based-on-Chromebook

recommends just using the web based Web-based VEXcode IQ and makes no menetion of being able to continue to use VEXcode IQ v4.0.7.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the fourms! What I would recommend is to use the web based code that is https://codeiq.vex.com/
this has worked for all three years of my VEX IQ career and should work and be up to date. The download is not as reliable and can sometimes have a mind of its own and mess things up (past experience). That is why you should use the website based coding. There is no difference from the download and the website, other than than the website needing internet, which you should already have if you are downloading something.

Thanks for the recommendation on website use.:raised_hands:

About the software for Windows (“VEXcode IQ v4.0.7”), is that considered part of the Chrome App discontinue message?

Thanks again

No.

Only Chrome Apps, which are only applicable for Chromebooks, are being discontinued by Google. You will no longer be able to use VEXcode IQ as a Chrome App on Chromebooks starting January, thus you MUST use the web-based version on Chromebooks.

Windows versions are unaffected.

Thank you for clarifying :grinning:

Knowing the windows app is available helps the team as they don’t always have WiFi access.
