Questions About Design Journal

I had two quick questions about the design journal. How serious are judges when it comes to using pencil crayon to shade and sketch drawings? Additionally, do judges care if you tape sketches into the design journal or must it ALWAYS be glued in?

Thanks.

  1. @MichelleY would be a good person to ask
  2. Why is this in #website-forum-support?

Ok thanks. And I accidentally picked the wrong discussion topic, I’ll change that now

Crayons for shading are fine. Taping in lieu of paste is fine. I’ve judged a lot and have never heard a conversation about whether a team glued or taped.

I did not know that pics had to be glued in. We use tape…

We put our initials on and if the paper showing that we have proof that we taped the picture in

Taped is fine. The Judge Guide specifies that:

(tape is acceptable, but glue is preferred)

For the general thread: As @Gear_Geeks says, pencil or crayon for shading is fine, as it does not conflict with the intent of the rule, which is to prevent students from erasing mistakes.

Strange. In the Robotics Engineering Notebook that you can buy, on the inside cover there is a list of do’s and dont’s. It says that all picture/sketches/whatever should be taped all 4 corners. I may be wrong.

They probably forgot to update it, but the Judge Guide is current for this season. Either way, loose papers are definitely not a good idea, so they just need to be secured in some manner.

Thank you for the clear-up!

I also just checked and it said that it can be either taped or glued.
