The Rule R20 says no modification in any way to motors, would this rule ban the engraving of numbers/school initials? all 40 of our club’s motors have been engraved already so i hope this isnt the case

Yes under the strictest interpretation, But I would suggest covering it with tape with your numbers. you prob won’t get called on it though.
Common sense applies here

That rule is to prevent people from removing temperature limits and other safeguards/limits to increase power and gain an unfair advantage. I think you could argue that engraving could be considered a “non-functional decoration” as it serves no other purpose other than aesthetics and is backed by vex legal material.
However, I seriously doubt that anyone would actually have an issue with it.
