So my team has made a robot where there is a spot that doesn’t touch the robot as we rapid load the ball, but is in a concave part of the robot. As rule SG5 clause C states that a rapid loaded ball may not be in contact with a loader and a robot. Since the ball is never touching the robot until something happens to the ball by the robot while being in a concave part formed by the robot, is it violating rule SG5 clause C? If not, would that type of loading be violating other rules?
May need a picture or video to fully understand what you’re asking. You may also want to check the Q&A our team just had answered that may help clarify your question: Further Clarification on Rapid Loading Procedures
Yes, this would be legal as the robot is removing the rapid loaded ball. (Great idea!)
BTW that’s a super creative design for the intake. A++ for creativity!
Oh wow…yeah the picture makes this so much easier to understand! Thank you.
So you’re saying that during rapid loading your Loaders are trying to place the ball inside that concave part? If so, then I think that is SUPER risky as it will be very hard for the Head Referee to determine if the Loader accidentally touched the robot when placing the ball down; which would be a violation. If you’re thinking about just “dropping” the ball from above (to avoid a Loader accidentally touching the bot) then I still think it will be tough for the Head Referee to know that the ball didn’t touch the bot in between the Loader and making contact with the floor within the approved Starting Zone.
If you’re doing this during Skills matches then at least the Head Referee is only watching your bot but if you’re going to do this during a Teamwork Challenge match then it complicates things even more given all the chaos going on with 6 team members and 2 bots in the final 15 seconds.
So it’s a very risky move but may result in very overpowered maneuvers possible if the head refs rule the loading as legal.
