I just started with the robotics program at my school, what are some things you think a first-timer should know? I started to drive robots, and I think I should probably learn more about everything else involved.

The more time you put into building ,programming ,or driving the better you will get, so just do things not only for the team, but to get better at them. (If you have free time and don’t know what to do, program. If you have a cool idea for something to build, build it. Etc)
