Hello all that see this. Im going into high school next year (woohoo) and continuing v5 comp. Im probably going to make my own team but when developing a Drivetrain I’m getting stuck on figuring out the spacing for the gear ratio. Im doing a 6 motor 36:60 ratio. CAD help most.
It’s all gonna depend on what size wheels you want to use.
If you do three large size wheels then you’ll need 24 tooth intermediate gears on an upper diagonal, or a very fast spinning 12 tooth gear intermediate gear in between the motor gears. You can run blue motors and gear down to 360 rpm by using 36:60 gear ratio.
If you do 4 medium size wheels then you can just do 60:36:60:36:60:36:60 all the way down the line. 4 wheels, 3 motors, 7 gears each side and that’s pretty simple. I’m not too familiar for the even smaller size wheels though. If you have access to any materials the best thing you can do is grab:
- A piece of metal
- The wheels you’re hoping to use
- 12, 24, 36, and 60 tooth gears
And then go ahead and start putting them onto the metal and moving them around. Think about how long you want your robot to be, and how many motors you’d like to use. You need an odd number of gears in between every Wheel. If you have two motors in between two wheels, you’ll need an intermediate gear (12 or 24 tooth likely), and if you only have one motor in between two wheels, you should have 0 or 2 intermediate gears (preferably 0 if possible to reduce friction). Space the wheels out evenly and then put the gears in place for them, and try and put the wheels on the middle hole if possible. Most things will line up all along the middle hole, but if something seems off then rotate it to another hole and see if it lines up with everything.
I am doing the same thing, I could probably help if you sent a picture but keep in mind I am a novice as well.
use the search bar. there are proly about 100 thousand threads here on VF on drives. and there are countless videos on youtube of cads and build videos for the exact drive you are describing.
Pleas please please take initiative next time and spend literally 5 seconds to type into the youtube search bar or google search bar for what you want . its not that hard.
literally the second and 7th search results on google.
