One of my teams has a robot that cannot go beyond 13 by 20 because their code doesn’t allow them to do so. But, when unpowered, the arms can move such that the total length is over 20". I am considering asking them to physically restrain the arms so that the total length can not go beyond the 20", even when unpowered.

Is this design legal or does the robot have to physically constrained to 13x20?

This is legal, but it would be helpful if you could easily demonstrate to the inspectors how the robot will not extend beyond the size limitations.
