Robot struggles to turn (only) in autonomous driving

We have a fairly large, heavy robot but it drives okay during driving skills. In autonomous though the robot drives straight, then stops when its time to turn. Even simple “turn right 45 degrees” doesn’t work - we can see the robot is trying but it doesn’t move. This is with a drive train configured.

We tried another program without configuring a drive train and instead configured individual left and right motors. In the program we power the motors individually with a difference in velocity and that correctly results in a turn. So why does this not work in autonomous?

We could proceed with the individual motors but its simpler for the kids to program using the drive train. Any ideas?

Could you show some pictures of the robot? This might be a mechanical issue.

Please post the code. Pictures and code on every robot problem is important.
