RobotC Free Trial

Hey all,
I am looking to maybe test RobotC out before next year starts with the free 30 day download. My question is how much space does it take up? I spent some time on their website but couldnt locate anything…
Thanks in advance.

The folder under program files is about 125MB for around 1500 files (a lot are NXT examples), so not very much.

Thanks! Well then my next question is could I delete some of the examples to make more room? It doesnt matter too much but Id like to take as little space as possible.

Yes, you could delete the RVW (ROBOTC Virtual Worlds) directory if you are not planning on using Virtual Worlds. It takes up about 71MB in the ROBOTC directory.
The sample progams take up about 10MB.

In fact, you could even delete all of the example code files to make more room… The sample program directory is ~10MB. Documentation directory is 7MB.

What type of constraints are you working in? ~125MB is incredibly small for most of today’s computers…

Well, lets just say my home computer isnt exactly one of “todays computers”.

ahhh… that makes sense… I totally understand.

So now I think I am good on space. (75 MB once trimmed down?). My next question is how long will it take to download? This isnt a big deal but Id like to know what kind of time I should have available.

It’s not uncommon for teams to bring lower-end computers to competitions. 512 MB RAM will still get the job done.

The installer is 78MB (which can be deleted/removed once installed).

Download time will depend on connection, but it shouldn’t take more than 15 min… (I think mine took ~5min)

Ok thanks.

As RoboDesigners said, it really depends on your internet connection. Mine took 2-3 minutes. You can take the installer on a flash drive with you though, and not have to worry about it.

Alright it took 5 minutes. I know I worry too much but when I was opening it it said "executable file blah blah blah may contain malicious content blah blah harmful to computer. " Its fine right?

Yes, that has happened to people before. ROBOTC doesn’t have viruses in it though. I thought they fixed that issue.

Does the 30 Trial of RobotC allow you to program a cortex and run programs? I am guessing it does, but I am just making sure.

In short, yes.

The 30 day Trial of ROBOTC is actually the full program, but is only licensed for 30 days. So, instead of being a “limited” trial, the 30 day trial will allow you to use ROBOTC just as if you owned the full version. After 30 days, if you want to continue using it, you just enter a license key–you don’t have to download/install anything else.

Thank you!

Well, i use a high end i7 laptop, basically the funding was tight and it would end up us buying a NEC laptop from like 7 years ago, so i just said i will bring mine everytime we were gonna meet, basically robotc works really well with it, i use windows 7 32-bit … another thing is … it took me like 3 seconds to download it at home, because i have fibre connection ! : D
