Anyone ever use a rubber shaft collar? How effective are they compared to the regular shaft collars?
We have used them a quite a lot. Regular shaft collars will hold on tighter but the rubber ones hold tight enough to do there job. I guess if you don’t mind checking your robot before every match to make sure they are snug they work fine.
Thanks for your input!
Our general rule is normal collars, as they tend to be more reliable. We have only used rubber collars in low profile and prototyping applications.
They are great. Although they cannot resist the same force as the set-screw shaft collars, their success/failure is not binary, and is unlikely to happen within the short usage of a single match.
I find the rubber ones are good for some things, but we use the metal ones to be more secure.
My team used a lot of rubber shaft collars last year but they always seemed to break after they were used nore than once. We use all metal shaft collars this year, we like the security.
