Rule <SG11>

Rule <SG11> states that "Becoming Entangled with the Net is considered a violation of <S1> and will result in a Disablement. Causing an opponent to become Entangled with the Net is considered a violation of <G11> and will result in a Disablement for both Teams. "

I am wondering why the rule isn’t just disabling the team that is causing its opposing robot to become entangled with the net. I can see some problems with the “Disablement for Both Teams”. What are the reasoning for just disabling the offending team? Thoughts?

It’s the same reason why they disable a team that accidentally entangles itself. Any team presents a safety hazard and violates S1 when it is entangled in the net, regardless of whether or not it’s their fault. If the robot gets entangled in the net by another robot and isn’t disabled, it could break the net trying to free itself. Disabling it eliminates that risk.

Logically, the rules are actually totally contradictory on this one:

So an opponent forcing you into entanglement in the net cannot give you a penalty, and intentional strategies will not result in the team being force to violate a rule receiving an infraction. But <SG11> says the robot forced into entanglement in the net is registered for a penalty/infraction for which it is disabled.

Thus right now the rules are utterly contradictory on this one. They really need to fix something here.

At least this part stops teams from getting a little ahead and intentionally pushing both the opposing robots into entanglement with the net.

The reasoning behind this: When a robot becomes truly entangled (not brushing up against, put caught up in) there is a pretty high chance that it will be very difficult to free itself using robot actions. The point of this rule is to prevent damage to the field by teams that get entangled and then subsequently try to free themselves. I think that in some cases considered “match affecting” the match could be replayed
