Changing the stock phrase “at the end of the match” to “at the end of the scoring period” could clearly resolve many of these potential interpretations, especially given that the AI game uses different terms for the 2 phases of the game. Might also need language to define that all points scored during the first period are only used to determine that period’s AWP and bonus points and do not carry forward to the second period (though that could make for some interesting gameplay and provide a strong incentive for autonomous routines!)

this does seem like the cleanest solution if the gdc intends everything to count during auton. If they want some things (such as the platforms) not to count while everything else does, I think it needs to be specified in the scoring notes, something like "elevated robots and goals are only worth points at the end of the match, and do not contribute to winning the autonomous bonus.

Someone could read and interpret the question like this: If I become elevated during the autonomous portion of the match do I receive elevated points at the end of the match? The answer there would be no because no game has ever played that way. However it’s possible it was interpreted that way by someone involved with that Q&A which would make that Q&A not apply to what everyone thinks it applies to.

Good call. I could definitely see it being interpreted that way … like the platform in Turning Point was. You can get up there for auton and it counts toward determining the auton winner, but you have to be there at the end of the match to get the elevation points.

Has there been a previous game where there were ways to score points in drivers, but they didn’t count in auton?

they dont automatically apply, i’m saying that someone should ask if those specific questions would have the same answers this season (and thus, essentially still apply)

Scoring in TT also included the caveat of “at the end of a match” in the scoring section of the manual for cubes. If we interpreted that the same way we interpreted Tipping Point then no one could’ve ever won the autonomous period because nothing is scored until the end of the match so every autonomous would’ve been a tie.

TT did in fact have “at the end of the match” as part of the scoring definitions for both cubes in the goal areas and cubes in towers. Yet, there was obviously no question that they also counted during auton, because like you say, it would have been impossible to win auton otherwise.

Just as this post here might be an incorrect interpretation as well.

its not necessarily wrong, but it’s just common sense when it comes to determining the points being scored. sadly the rules for tipping point rely on uncommon sense (tbh i wouldn’t call the rules sensical)

The clearest solution for the GDC to clarify subnote G18a (or even add a subnote G18b) for Tipping Point to clarify that elevated (or home zone?) robots/mobile goals are not scored at the end of autonomous, so there’s a very easy rule to point to when confusion comes up again. Oh, and also clarify that points can be calculated at the end of the autonomous period. it’s kinda dumb that it isn’t written.

This unclear nature of the rules is what makes me think that including “at the end of the match” in the scoring notes and definitions was just done without thinking about the implications. It’s just a phrase that the GDC has used before when making scoring definitions, and I don’t think they considered the effects this phrase could have.

I might be wrong, since the gdc has said absolutely nothing on what they were trying to do here, but this is just what seems to me most likely happened.
