Scholarships for Independent Teams

I am looking into starting an independent solo team. I’m curious what sponsorships, scholarships, and grants I could apply to in order to help secure funding. Do yall have any recommendations?

Try to apply for the grant for team registration it could save you $250 each year or one year if you apply. To my knowledge that’s the only grant that doesn’t have very specific criteria.

RECF Grants is a great starting place. There may be other local options – chances are your RSM can help you find those as well.

I’ve looked through all that are in my area and they require me to be technically part of a school.

Asking local businesses and community members for sponsorships has seemed to work well for us, but you will need to put some effort in to find sponsorships. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t succeed the first time!
We’ve found actually talking to business owners (instead of just sending an email) leads to much greater success, too.

If you are located in South Carolina, check out Team Exploration Grants

To follow up to this, if one of your team member’s parents works at a buisness, you could ask the owner of that buisness to sponser your robotiscs team. Remenber to ask their company’s name or logo on a t-shirt or poster bord (or whatever) so they have a reason to sponser your team next year. There is also many other posts on the Fourm about this. I would reccomend reading them for more information about this topic (we don’t have a sponser other then my uncle, so this might not help)

The issue is the incentive for a business to donate is so that they can write off some of their taxes but since I’m not affiliated with a school they don’t have that same incentive.
