Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had made a scuff controller for VEXIQ before I go and CAD one, I am not in any VIQC discord servers so I might have missed if it was posted. I have found this post from 2020 indicating that no one had made one, but that was from 2 years ago, if no one has, are there any features you would like to see in my version? What buttons should it press? Where should be the paddles?
First question is if it would even be legal for IQ, since there’s almost no modification of anything allowed.
As a mentor watching kids, it’s the E and F buttons that would benefit from it if it were allowed, as you generally have to take fingers off a stick to hit those. Generally we coach the kids on only assigning actions to those that don’t have things to do while in motion, which is generally the case for some portion of all the IQ games. Alternately, they’ll just be toggles to turn on/off functions so they don’t require constant presses.
I would expect that it would be legal, as VRC has is not allowed modifications to electronics, instead the GDC simply considers external “scuff” attachments to not be modifications. Still, would definitely warrant a Q&A.
That is true, but if the rules relevant to the Q&A haven’t change, the generally (but not always) the same q&a asked this season would get the same response. As I noted earlier, I think a Q&A would be a good idea for any team that’s looking to use this this season.
Not making another topic to crowd the forums, but I just wanted to let you all know that this project is still in the works, I had taken a break for some state exams, and I had just not been finding robotics as fun, and did not want to make something that would not be my 100%. After a bit I am finally back and am shooting for the project to be in a beta stage in the next 3 weeks, this should give teams plenty of time to practice, my apologies to those teams that wish to use this at worlds, I should have waited not to provide false hope. When I do finally release it I will link a cad, a printables, and a youtube video that shows building steps. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I am in the Ex Machina discord server as Blazium if you want to dm me.
I am working with Blaziumm to bulid this. I agree robotics hasnt been as fun lately and state tests are annoying and take up alot of time. I will continue to work on this as cading a design that works and fits are 2 different things. Unfortunately since i am over that dealine i cannot continue with vexiq. I am hoping to work on it this summer as i can have lots of time. I am hoping to get this out so Vex Robotics has enough time to possibly give Blaziumm a shout out. I will hopefully be able to stay connected with Blaziumm and get this done! A small background to this was Blaziumm came up to me and asked if i could cad this. Long story short i said yes. I will negotiate with Blaziumm for ownership. (50/50) As it was his idea and i just helped this very busy and aweosme person. So thanks for reading this long message and stay safe and happy building. If anyone knows if this design could get us into vex world’s. Let me know.
Please let me know if/when you get this completed. I am starting my sophomore season as a VIQRC coach and like someone else said, now that I see it, I want it…HA! It would be great to print them at school because I could do a different color for each controller which would help keep the impulsive middle schoolers better focused and connect to their particular controller/brain pairing.
