Share Your Team Logos

I like those team names because they make me laugh. When the announcer calls your team every match (I’m in Nebraska does any other announcers do that?) I Love the funny or weird ones because it isn’t basic. Great team name and logo!

Shhh… If you have any other ideas for a black hole kinda design, would love to hear them.

I think this is a cautionary tale for design, copyright, and trademarks.

Clearly, Grok trademark is protecting the company from having others leverage from the brand identity. Under federal regulations they will need to defend the mark by use by others. While at MIT the project I was running had a dispute with an other organization about use of marks. It was resolved, but in the process MIT had to shut down other organizations using the same mark.

Copyright is another matter, in this case the mark is also a copyright, the entity does not have to file a copyright with the government, it is implicit. Using someone else’s design without their permission has limited cases - fair use, educational and research does not apply here. Derivative use, such as parody, is very hard to leverage in this case.

Why bring this up for competition teams - well G1 applies to everything you do - honesty, integrity… and in design process, Guide to Judging is extremely clear on this. Your reply “Shhh…” may be considered by some as crossing the line of academic honest.

If you wish to use the Grok logo, you will need to have permission from Meta to do so, and not crediting in any way in there first place is problematic.

My brother-in-law’s robotic wildcat design for WalshBots has been misappropriated by some organizations, including one in Iran, and another by VRC team. These usually get resolved by granting permission to use, others by ignoring so not to cause international distress, and by cease and desist.

My advice to teams, find some artistic person to create original designs for your teams.

you could do something with more of a spiral pattern, like this example I made (pretend the spiral is filled in)

Also, you could just use Canva! it’s surprisingly easy to make designs that look good using it (so long as you ignore all of the useless “features” they’ve added for some reason)
