Short ranged vs long ranged

I haven’t really seen anything on this topic, so I just wanted to know: should an ideal launcher (balls or otherwise) be short or long ranged? In other words, is long range capability necessary to a launchers success, or is it ok to simply be able to shoot short range.

you sort of want to be able to do both, but short range shots are more common, so a really good short range only bot can still be very competitive.

Long range shooting is merely a plus. It’s typically much much easier to shoot from close range, but it’s good to have the option.

Short range is better. All the balls naturally move closer to the flags because everyone is shooting them. Long range is just helpful.

Long range shots are definitely helpful because of the intense defense that gets played in the front of the field. You don’t want to waste too much time trying to fight other robots if you can go in the back and shoot relatively quickly.
