Should the engineering notebook include key rules from the game manual

As the title says, should we include key rules from the game manual in the notebook? I feel like this would make it easier for people reading the notebook to follow with our thought process if they know some of the rules we need to follow. Right now, it seems like I will be mentioning almost half of the rules. Is this unnesscary or too much?

We do an introduction to and an analysis of the rules at the start of the notebook, even if it doesnt help judges it is a good way for the team to get their heads around the game

I would say so. It shows the judges that you have a clear understanding of the rules and know what to make sure of. Plus, I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with adding extra info in your notebook, especially if it pertains to the game rules.

This is how our team approached this for High Stakes.

Also interesting that all of three of these rules were modified after Mall. It was a good excuse to add another notebook page.

One thing to keep in mind: the judges that review your notebook are human, and only have a specific amount of time to actually read it. Finding all of the components needed to score your notebook in a realistic amount of time is challenging is your document is hundreds of pages long.

Length is not an end in and of itself. If the rule influences your design process, you should definitely include it. But if you cannot tie that rule to a specific design/strategy design you are making, it’s not helping you tell the story of your design process
