Judges’ Comments to Teams

There is another thread going on about comments back from the judges to teams. Currently RECF has said to not return the rubrics to team since the point value is very subjective and that some teams will come argue the score with the judges. In Delmarva for 2018-19 I piloted the return of feedback to VIQ teams about their interview and notebook. Why are judging rubrics not released?

This is a hot topic that has been discussed many times before. Judging is very subjective and while the rubrics provide a good baseline to measure teams, there is still a lot of discussion that happens that is not documented. Its a tough call weather returning the rubric is in the best interest of the team or if it would cause a lot of problems because it doesn’t provide all of the context. Return of Design Award Rubrics

During the past events I have been attending, when asked, the Judges told me that they’re not supposed to return design award rubrics when they return our notebooks, or give it to us at any time. Is this the correct procedure? If so, what is the rationale behind this? Wouldn’t we want teams knowing the correct way to write their notebooks?
