Sister team question

Hi  . So our sister team is planning on using mecanum drive for a scrimmage we’re doing with our cities HS team and they’re just wondering if using an 84 tooth gear running on 200rpm that powers a 36 tooth that powers a 60 tooth gear would be a viable enough ratio to balance out speed and power. We don’t have access to 24,48,72 tooth gears.

Each mecanum is gonna have its own gear train resulting in 280 rpm drivetrain if I calculated correctly

I’d go 16.5 watts per wheel then go 400 RPM

We don’t have 5.5 watt motors

I do a 360 RPM 4 motor tank drive for my drivetrain

What gearing would that be?

All drivetrain gearings can be found here. 360 rpm is 600rpm motors geared down 36:60.
For you, 84 to 36 to 60 is the same as 84:60, so I woudl uct out that 36 tooth gear because it really doesn’t do anything. 84:60 is just below 60 in/sec, so it may be a tiny bit slower than other bots, but it is still competitive. I just have concerns over torque since it is a mechanum drive.

However, mechanum drives have never (to my knowledge) done well historically in VRC, let alone a season such as this one (I haven’t seen any strafing drives at the semi to finals level of signature events). I wouldn’t recommend doing it, but feel free to try it. Just be sure that you have enough torque, as it takes a but more effort to propell mechanum wheels than regular tank drives.

its a 36 tooth driving gear to a 60 tooth driven gear all connected together
