Hi,
So our team just went to the Massachusetts Middle School State Championships. Unfortunately, they did not win the tournament. However, we were told that if a team had already qualified for worlds, be it via the tournament or the excellence/design award, the Worlds qualification is passed down to the next highest team in skills. We got 4th place in skills, under 3 other teams that already qualified for worlds. Does this mean that we qualified for worlds, as this question suggests, or does the slot get passed down to the next highest scoring team over the entire season?
kingsting,
Great question. When there are teams that win more than one VEX Worlds qualifying spot, the extra spots will be filled by inviting the next highest programming skills team (not already qualified for VEX Worlds) from the global skills rankings (which encompass the entire season). The spots will be filled by the highest (unqualified) Programming Skills team in Southern New England, and then the highest (unqualified) Robot Skills team in Southern New England, and then the 2nd highest (unqualified) Programming Skills team in Southern New England. The event specific skills scores are posted to the global rankings. I hope that this helps!
Best,
Brad
