Skills with Tournament Manager and Smart Field Controller

Setting up tournament equipment and upgrading to smart control. Few questions:

  1. Had to reflash the Pis. When hitting Update Display in TM a message pops up asking if I want to leave it alone as is or install TM on the Pi. Other than the obvious (having TM installed or not, just preempting those answers lol), what is the functional difference. Using the Pis for displays and field control mainly, TM “server” runs on laptop.

  2. What is the best practice way to run Skills with Smart Control? So there is the LRT era Skills app that is pretty neat and useful then there’s a Skills app loaded in slot 2 on the Smart Control brain. When connected via TM, no matter how I try to boot, start, power the brain, TM automatically starts the app in slot 1 (match app) and defaults to 15 seconds. Yes I know I can change that from the TM screen and make it 1 minute as in the old days, but then what’s the point of the new Skills app? There’s also a thing that pops up on the EP screen at Robotevents that says you agree to this: “Official Qualifying Events may only use the official, unmodified version of Tournament Manager for field control”. So then can’t use the new (or old) Skills apps?

  3. If connected to TM and unless I’m missing crucial setup intelligence (see question 2), how to handle Skills stop time in TM? As it works now, you’re signaled to stop and the only logical option is to hit “End Match Early” and type the time in the score section? But then the other options including Reset are not accessible and the only way to get out of this is to hit Continue Match then to completely End Match and Reset? It’s all clunky and noisy (we use the sounds). I’m clearly not understanding correctly running skills fields?

Thank you in advance for guidance.
