Slow Season in CA-South

Hi all. Our schools have hosted tournaments for many years and our teams have competed throughout Southern California. This year, what’s changed?? Events are getting cancelled because not enough teams registered (including our middle school tournament). Our elementary event is at risk of being cancelled and every year past had a waitlist. I feel like in years past, we’d have to register the day it opened to get a spot and now events are like half full.

Is that happening anywhere else? It’s like half the teams here up and disappeared…

(Also - here’s the elementary-only event - one of the best run locally imo Link

What I think is happening is that people just aren’t that interested in Vex and or coding anymore because It may seem boring to them but, even so you should at least try to compete in your work.

Yikes…have they historically cost $180 for a regional event in SoCal? That seems steep.

Here in Texas they’re $55-$65 per team with 40 slots per tournament and they fill up pretty quickly.

We’re having the same problem in the Memphis are in Tennessee. I’v had two tournaments this year cancelled due to this. The only one that wasn’t cancelled where my teammate last second couldn’t attend only had 14 teams, and that was barely.

The Sumner County area where I help to run events still seems fairly active, so you may want to try traveling a bit further for events.
