Well my six year old has done it again.
We were in radioshack and she found the Solar Cells. and Asked if they would work with our robots.
A solar kit would be Awesome. I’m gonna see about throwing something together just for kicks and Giggles. Who knows when I get it to work Maybe I’ll market an independent kit or something. If there is enough demand for one.
it would be a nice kit although this topic has been brought up before
great idea but please search your posts:

A six year old girl who is into Solar Cells!!! Awesome!!!
She might be an Engineer yet!!!
The Solar Cells charging capacity will not keep up with the Vex Motors dis-charging rate, but if your 'Bot moves a little and Parks (in the Sun) a lot, you would greatly expand the time between recharges.
its nice that you’re raising her so that she is already into robotics at 6! this reminds me of always begging my dad to build me a robot but then he just bought be a kit instead
I wish I was into robotics at 6 >.<
My parents really aren’t into computer stuff… needless to say today at cybercamps my dad picked me up early and said something about how many projects people were working on- I told him that it was free time and we were playing Halo, Unreal Tournament, and Spore… lol
Anyways, aren’t the radio shack panels $5 each yet only generate about .5 v? I remember my friend also tried soldering them and broke $10 of solar panels
I try to keep my girls stimulated I let them help with the building and they try to come up with Ideas for robots. Last year In my oldest’s Kindergarten class I did a robot presentation for them using Vex. I built a robot that could erase the white board. It was a real pain coming up with a functional design for that one.
Heh, I so wish I had a building mentor.
Im programming savvy, but I wish I had some of the circuitry or building skills most of the forum members possess…
My kindergarten never did anything special except serving us blue dyed milk and letting us drop eggs in bags from a tower to see who could make the best safeguard for the egg not to shatter… 0.o
Check out my Vex based Sunbot that I entered into the Microchip PIC32 Contest. SunBot’s main controller will be the Microchip PIC32 microcontroller and will also use the Vex Controller to control the 6WD motion subsystem. Vex based projects designed by Vex Forum Members can be helpful towards solving the current Global Warming and energy problems. Please vote for my contest entry and I will do the same in turn. You can see the progress that I have made with my Vex based SunBot robot using links below. Maybe you and your daughter can enter the NASA sponsored Future Design Contest.
