Spam...?!

I just wanted to note that when I signed up for the old forum about a month ago, I had to wait a day or so before my account was verified (by a moderator/admin) in addition to the email verification, so that definitely could have been part of the reason why there was less spam over there.

Just a heads up, @lifanny just made a spam thread in Technical Support. It’s called “Be blade and soul gold wary”

Taken care of.

Hey @DRow , what is your opinion on a solution like this? I know I would be happy to help and would take some of the obvious burden off of you and and James. Obviously it would be something with literally 0 judgement and only for blatant spam.

Or at least making a new simple report button like the old forum.

Just so there is full disclosure, I do zero work on the backend of the forum. I merely serve as the middle man between the community and our IT team that is in charge of maintaining and upgrading the forum.

As such, I can’t make any guarantees that something like this is even possible, as I’m not familiar with the inner workings of esoTalk. However, I do feel that something like that could be useful. It could reduce the pressure on the few moderators that we have to consistently monitor the forum, and delete any spam posts that manage to slip through.

The VEX offices are shut down for the final week of the year, but be assured that I will float this idea to the rest of the team when we reopen in 2016.

Unfortunately right now there arent any esotalk plugins that allow you to report (flarum has this by default in the form of “flagging” but flarum doesnt have any signature plugins that i could find  )

esoTalk is not being actively developed, all the effort is going into flarum. Toby (original developer, med student) was at one time being funded by one of the early adopters on esoTalk (Xojo, I’ve been a customer of theirs for about 10 years) but I think at this stage the only way it would improve would be by user supported enhancements. There are many smart people that use vexforum that could add plugins, but if the plan is to migrate to flarum it may not be worth it. So the big question is, when will the migration happen?

i have a test flarum instance set up, its harder to install than esotalk, i cant find a signature plugin anywhere, in fact flarum intentionally isnt implementing signatures which kinda sucks and i have tried configuring smtp so many times and emails refuse to send no matter what, it doesnt show smtp errors even with debugging on and that doesnt help

other than that its prettier than EsoTalk, it has much less gray text on white backgrounds

I really dont like PHP but ill see if i can start making plugins for it

Just a heads up, there’s an other span thread here:
https://vexforum.com/index.php/16912-the-hearts-of-buy-fifa-coins-quite-a-few

Thanks for the heads up. It’s gone now.

Sorry to resurface this thread but there’s a new post…

Soo… is this considered spam…? Link:confused:

Yes, thank you for bringing this to my attention. It has been deleted, and the user has been banned.

KURUKSHETRA’16 seems to be spamming. It is mild spam, and slightly relevant to robotics. But spam none the less I believe.

Who? I have no idea what or who you’re talking about

Caught me right as I was going to bed. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry to bring up this thread @DRow but NoodleJ Just started a bunch of spam threads

No problem at all. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. That user has been dealt with.

More spam from @legotycoon.

I don’t think that thread was posted on purpose. Looking back at that user’s past posts, he seems legit. Regardless, that particular thread has been deleted.
