Even at 2, each line can be 1" off and be in spec. So, they could be touching or 4" apart.
To be realistic (since referees are a somewhat picky group of people), you can probably expect 2" plus or minus about 1/4". In the end, if you want to play it safe, you’ll need a sensor to detect the tape, rather than just going by dead-reckoning.
I went ahead and put something in the Q&A, since the “Be prepared for minor field variance” rule does not exist in this game manual and there are very little specified tolerances. Everything except the auton line is clearly defined, but then I realized there is no specified tolerance for disc placement either.
