yeah probably. the optical sensor has a little LED which works pretty well with different lighting conditions
It wouldnāt face the goal at all times. It would always face one true direction, but it would only face the goal if the base is driven to the correct position on the field.
You can see here that if the turntable is set to hold southwest, it would only shoot into the goal if the robot is within a small area towards the middle of the field. This is where Odometry comes in to figure out where the robot is and adjust the aim accordingly

I do agree that getting a full 360 would be amazing. I believe itās possible, but I donāt know how well it works with discs, since I think I saw a post that showed a 360 turret for nothing but net. But discs act somewhat differently to balls, so I donāt know how feasible a 360 turret is. And I donāt think itās entirely necessary either, but I have yet to try anything out

We have an interesting design idea for intakes. Yet to sketch it out though. Iām thinking itās gonna be a forward drive train, either 2 or 4 motor (depending on how many we need for the turret), 2-4 motor for turret rotation, 1 motor flywheel, 1 motor intake/roller.

Or⦠you could run the drive shaft for the flywheel in the turret right up the center, and use some sort of ring gear to rotate the turret.

My turret uses 1 motor. I donāt think you would need 2-4 motors for turret rotation unless you are doing something absolutely crazy.
You could also allow for the wire to twist a couple times and make sure the program doesnāt allow the turret to do too many full rotations. It might be a little janky but it should be fine
