Stepper Motors

My class wants to use the VEX controller to drive 4 wire stepper motors. How would I do this and what parts would I need.

Ostensibly you could drive a stepper motor with two MC29s, but it’d be more cost effective and easier to use a driver specifically for stepper motors, like this one from Adafruit, or this one from Sparkfun. With some wire modifications you could get them to work with a cortex, or you could use an Arduino or other microcontroller to do so.

If you’re absolutely set on using MC29s, then you should study how the motors are wired to the coils inside, generally you’d have the two phases being opposite from each other (one set of coils is positive, while the other is negative) and switching.
