My school hosts a few VRC Tournaments every year. Each year, it seems that screws/misc parts get lost and by the last one, the practice field has half the parts missing. I was wondering how others keep their (field/tournament) parts together? We’ve tried many kinds of parts holders, boxes, shelves, etc. We haven’t hit the perfect thing yet, and doubt we ever will. But who knows, maybe someone else has found the perfect storage solution.
To be more specific, I am mostly talking about the smaller pieces. Not the actual large elements. We have a trailer and a room for those kinds of parts.
Our situation is we setup for three fields area with each having three fields (so 9 field setup). Each area has its own rigid tool case with the rubber feet, screws, tools, corner brackets (we store our fields in 12’ sections, so we do not have to worry about the connecting gussets).
For field electronics, we run three competition fields, each as its own tote (not too large) that holds the fixed field cameras, 8 port ethernet switch, V5 Smart Field Controller, rPi, and cables for that field. We store rPi (the rPi are powered by the display’s USB port) for 2 65" displays in the field totes.
For livestream gear is stored in a rigid rolling tool case - pretty much self-contained.
I would put check lists of parts in each tote to make sure all the gear is present when packing up. Make it someone’s job to check. In our case, all the gear lands in my classroom, and it takes a couple of days to put everything back in right storage locations.
