Suggestions For Team Base/Intake

Aloha, my name is Joshua and I am a member of Robowarriors at Kamehameha Kapalama. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for my teams base and intake. Both are in the prototype phase.

Any help would be appreciated!

I guess I don’t have much, but here goes:

  • 3 wide c-channel are relatively heavy, try to not use them too much
  • you probably need another full width crossbeam somewhere on the base
  • try to use 6 motors on the drivetrain, 4 motors tends to be a bit less than required to be competitive nowadays
otherwise I’d say that for what you have right now, the build quality and ideas aren’t really bad, and it looks good, so good job :+1:

Great start for a prototype! However I do have some suggestions:

  • Drive train generally have more than 44W of motor, as 4 smart motors tend to fall off later when robots are heavier, and opponents have a strong push force.
  • Based on our team’s knowledge, those chains might snaps if there’s too much tension, but the hook won’t function properly if there’s not enough tension (like in your case). I suggest adding some chain tensioner, and replace them w/ thicker tank chains
  • 2 motors for an intake seems… a little bit overkill for me.

Great, but you’d might want to move the brain someplace else:
On rule <R26>:

<R26> Keep the power button accessible. The on/off button on the V5 Robot Brain must be accessible without moving or lifting the Robot. All screens and/or lights must also be easily visible by competition personnel to assist in diagnosing Robot problems.

After putting on the intake, it might not be as accessible. And looking from the position of the battery cable, the power button won’t be either.

Thanks! But I have no experience with coding a 6 motor drive train, let alone how to build one, or even add it to my base.

We are probably going to change the motor stuff; we were just testing things out! We were also taking a look at using a hood-type intake instead of a hook type.

We are going to move the brain after we have all our stuff built

Alright!

Also, when you are replying to multiple people, you can just quote them and keep them all in a single post by selecting the text and clicking “quote”.

For example, you could do this:

You can search for tutorials on how to build one, and you can code it by using motor groups for both sides and changing the speeds (or spin_for, but I haven’t tried that yet) based on the controller’s axis.

[Some other response here]

You should follow that format for future posts.

I believe there are plenty of tutorials and templates on YT or in the Forum. I myself didn’t know how to make one until I found a post a while ago.
