With the recent influx of early robot reveals our team decided it would be a perfect time to reveal one of our robots nicknamed “KATANA”
STATS:
h-drive style chassis with 1:2 external gear ratios and a center strafing wheel for maneuverability
dual wheel vertical launcher with an external gear ratio of 35:1 allowing for full field shots as well as lob shots
3 ball capacity intake with 5:1 external gear ratio for quick ball acquisition
Our first competition will be at Blackstone Valley Tech in Upton MA hopefully in the beginning of October.
Good luck to everyone competiting in this years game its shaping up to be a great season.
Feel free to ask any and all questions regarding this robot also we uploaded a reveal video to youtube heres the link: Vex Nothing But Net Summer Reveal 6916d - YouTube
This robot looks very much like one we I built this summer, but yours is built Better:). How long did this take you.
I’m not too certain its built better haha but thank you, and this robot took us about 6 weeks to build with all its different incarnations.
I was meaning an older robot not the one being revealed Wednesday. But still good job. Have you tried 2 motors on the launcher so you could have more for elevating?
Quick question. Are you using the 4" wheels or the 3.25" wheels?
Oh ok i apologize haha, i can’t wait to see the direction you guys will be going this year with your robot!
And we did try two motors but it was very prone to stalling and this robot is primarily meant for quick bonus ball possession and it is a mostly all aluminium build so it can be lifted if the opportunity arises. We are in the process of building a mono flywheel lifting robot which will be revealed at a later date.
We are using the 4" inch wheels to give us a happy medium between good inertia buildup and short waits for the flywheels to get up to speed.
Do omni wheels provide better grip for double flywheels? We tried a single, but never on double flywheels. On single, the rollers were kind of in the way of accuracy.
Actually we found that the omni wheels contribute no considerable changes in flight of the balls in comparison to the 4" traction wheels, so we just have them on our launcher because well we think they look better than the other 4" wheels
