Sumo Robot

Prototype tank tread drivetrain for sumo robot, I am planning to use 2 of these next to each other on either side of the robot for an 8 motor drivetrain. Looking for feedback on the design and how to make the robot more effective.

If you have 2 of those on each side, wouldn’t that make two of your motors on the outside of your robot?

no i am planning to have horizontal plating at the edge of the robot front back sides and maybe rear that goes down to the ground to protect the robot but i am still working on modeling this.

Don’t use sprockets as gears, they don’t work very well like that. Use actual gears which are intended to be used that way.

You also probably want to power the outside sprockets with motors instead of the inside one, as they have much more contact with the chain/tread and will stop it from skipping.

You can also replace the 5-wide c-channel with a smaller 2-wide one unless you are specifically trying to make it heavy, and make sure you have another beam on the outside to support the sprockets from both sides.

Otherwise it seems fine, there’s not much more I can say without knowing what the rest of your design looks like
