Even if you may or may not be correct, why would Russia do something that would put itself in a deeper and more negative spotlight? I feel like the effects of the current event at hand would cause more long-term harm to Russia socially/economically than Ukraine being a part of NATO. So I am very confused on what their government is actually trying to accomplish from this.

@DRow, I think this thread has outlived its usefulness. Misinformation is being spread, and this has devolved into a political discussion and is no longer relevant to robotics.

Yes, some Americans are ignorant and listen to everything they hear. But equally the same goes to every other country and government, even a Communist one. I feel like a large amount of people, regardless of government type (Communist, Democratic, etc) tend to be a puppet to whatever information politicians spout to them.
But honestly, attacking a country that may possibly wake up multiple countries into action against Russia is NOT a logical decision of Russia to do.
Anyways, I really hope that in the future we can meet up at Worlds or something and have a discussion about this and exchange opinions based upon our different backgrounds. But my biggest fear is it may not be possible in the future if US adds regulations against Russia with transportation/airlines or the RECF decides to chop Russia from team sign-ups. Simply, “who knows what the future holds.”

Guys i know im the king of off-topic posts but can we please just drop the political nonsense and talk about ways we can support ukraine in robotics. i can feel @DRow ominously hovering over this thread, ready to bring destruction upon all who dared to bring politics into this .

Yes… and remember - need to keep it respectful and apolitical.
We are not here to discuss who is at fault, but I am sure all of us can agree that we hope not to see any wars.
Show our support to the Ukrainians that are going through tough time, but no need to bash anyone or countries in the process.

It may seem very difficult to support Ukraine at this time, but there are very simple things we can all do, Fight the disinformation, the media has been only successful at confusing the situation, don’t post memes about the crisis because Ukraine is fighting for their freedom, people are dying, and making jokes about it is one of the most disrespectful things you can do. It’s okay to put Ukrainian flags on a robot if you mean to support Ukraine but don’t if you have other purposes. (so long as it follows Vex rules)

DRow has been tagged multiple times, but has not locked the thread. I take this to mean that there are useful and relevant things to be said. We must ask ourselves, what are these relevant things? Is this thread open for the support of a falling country? Is it to discuss the effects on us as VEX teams through further disrupted supply chains, or other things? This is what we need to focus on. In my reasoning, wars are entirely political. However, death is not political - death is tragic. Death probably isn’t the reason this thread was left open. But whatever the reason was, let’s stick to that and keep this civil.

Idk, I jsut made the thread to say “hey dying is bad”. The people in the thread can take it wherever they want tbh. But I would say that thinking of ways to support Ukraine through vex would be cool, or just showing what we’ve done to support them. I put the Ukrainian flag on the Brain, may find some painted metal in the back and just slap it on our robot (tbh it would fit our aesthetic of Jank)
