Switching intake this late

Is switching intake this late risky? My teammates and I saw intakes constantly looking the same, and when we saw that 229v Ace had a great looking intake that preforms really well we started to take inspiration. Currently our intake is done but it needs fine tuning. There are a few parts that need replacing here and there but other than that it works pretty well. Our driver hasn’t actually been able to test it and from other tests we’ve done, we can’t ensure it will be reliable on field.
Now, my teammate proposes that we build a “Lady Brown” intake because many teams are switching to one and they seem like they could be the new meta. The thing is, we have a competition in less than a month and multiple teammates are sick. Our builder, coder, and notebooker is sick. That would slow us down in building a new intake, seeing as the current one isnt even that complicated yet it took us a month. Our current intake doesn’t really measure to the inspiration.

Other information,
our competition is on the 14th of dec. Everyone notebooks but the builder who is sick is the main person who does notebooking besides the actual notebooker. Our other teammates are either new to vex or have very crappy building and notebooking skills. 1/2 coders is sick. The other one has a crappy laptop and only knows block. Our robotics coach literally stalks what we do and tells the rest of the teams to do it. If we change, others may change with us. Keeping the current intake could also be a risk because we have had problems with it recently. We won’t change it unless the whole entire team decides to do so.

Based off the state of your team I feel that now would be a risky decision considering time. I believe that you could try to work on team efforts and help the people that have bad skills. You could try to do it but it could be better to help your team and try to improve on what you have.

Ok so let’s think about this.
Your next competition is on the 15th of December giving you around 26 days.
Let’s assume you need a few days at the start to get your current intake working, so 23 days.
Now, would you rather spend this time making a completely new intake, or refining the one you have.
You have a pretty good amount of time to get very good at driving the robot, code an autonomous, and just be ready for the competition in general.
Even if the new intake is better than your current one, you having lots of skill with your current one is better.
I would recommend having a teammate start on a new intake and you can try it after the competition.
Good luck!

Nah, my team has rebuilt the intake more times than we can count, The normal ETA is 3-4 days if we rush, longest it’ll take is 1-2 weeks.
