Switching mechanisms between matches?

Hello, I have been unable to find any information regarding the swapping of mechanisms between matches at a tournament or for the use of skills. For example, if I wanted to make a flywheel and a catapult but wanted to use them in different matches depending on who the opponents are to have a better advantage, or for skills to use a catapult for more accurate match loading. Would this be possible/legal? also, my team has been thinking about using plexiglass and pistons for elevation would this also be legal? one before this one more important.

For questions regarding the legality of mechanisms, it’s important to turn to the game manual. Try looking at R1 and see if that answers your question. If it doesn’t, come back and ask a more specific question.

For more questions regarding the legality of certain mechanisms, we look at the game manual again.

In the game manual, it states that the rules are constraints, so if a mechanism is not prohibited, then it is generally allowed. This applies to your question about utilizing pistons for elevation.

However, plexiglass is not allowed by R18e. I assume you’re talking about another type of non-shattering plastic which would be allowed.

I hope you consider consulting the game manual before asking simple questions about legality in the future

Glad to see new “forumers” scrutinising the rules.

I must say that this is pretty much an obscure rules that most students would have missed out on.

r1 can be confusing but basically you have to get inspected in every possible config and if u do that ur good

@Money @lacsap Still confused if this is allowed or not the way I have interpreted the rules (which may be wrong if so please tell me why) a launching mechanism would be labeled under subsystem 3 thus allowing the swapping of a launching mech without creating a new robot. if I am wrong can someone please clarify?

I would read this new Q&A issued today, it should clarify the legality of changing the configuration of robot subsystems as along as long as you are not creating two (or more functional robots).
