The game manual is precise on subsystems and what constitutes changing a new robot. Are we allowed to switch out subsystem 3 (mechanism for manipulating blocks and navigating field elements) during the tournament? For instance, can we have a robot that has a common base, but then a specialized subsystem for clearing out the supply zone, and a specialized subsystem for clearing picking up blocks and scoring and switch them out (based on what the other robot in the alliance is good at)?
Have you read rules R3a and R3b in the game manual…do these rules answer your question?
If you were intending to handle your robot during a specific match to make the change, this would violate rule G10, which allows handling only to make repairs, not for strategic advantage.
Thanks.
Re: R3a and R3b: We interpreted R3a and R3b (esp R3b) as needing to get both configurations of the robot being inspected in the beginning. The combination of how R1 is specific about only about subsystem 1 and 2 being the definition of one Robot, with R3b talking about multiple configurations is exactly what raised the question in our team.
Re: G10. I should have been clearer. Yes, the thought was not to make the change mid-match, but select between one of the two configurations at the beginning of the match (a decision together with the alliance partner for that match)
As long as this happens, you’re fine.
